One of the biggest problems for older people, especially those living on their own, is not staying warm enough in their home during winter. When temperatures fall below 8c, older people can have an increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, flu, pneumonia and in serious cases hyperthermia.
The cold and dark of winter can be hard for older people, particularly affecting mental health, presenting dangerous situations for loved ones.
The winter months for many local older people can be lonely and long, over 20% of local older people say that they feel lonely all of the time and can go with-out seeing or speaking to another person for more than weeks at a time.
With your help, we can make a difference this winter to older people in our communities.
