Rutland Water Golf Club ladies section and the senior men's section have chosen the Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland's dementia services as their charity of the year for 2026.

All funds raised this year will go to the delivery of locally provided dementia services.

Tee-rrific Achievement

Since January this year, the ladies section and the senior men's section have been holding various events to raise money including, more recently, an afternoon tea that raised £715

In total, to date, £2,612.05 has been raised for Rutland Dementia Services which is run by Age UK Leicester, Shire & Rutland. An amazing effort, and a massive thanks to everybody involved in all of the activities.

Captains First Drive

The new ladies captain, Christine Miljkovic, and the new senior men's captain, Richard Soper, both tee'd off their first official drives as captains in the first week of the new year. These events also signalled the first fundraising efforts of the new partnership between Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland and Rutland Water Golf Club

Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland's Dementia Support Service in Rutland supports people aged 18 and over, who are living in Rutland and who are awaiting or living with an early diagnosis of dementia.

Available to all residents aged 18, who live within Rutland County boundaries, and have a suspected or formal diagnosis of dementia.

The service supports people living with dementia, and informal carers. Helping them live well, maintain independence, focus on personal strengths and make the most of the support in their local community.

This includes:

• Personalised information and advice as required, to support people who are awaiting a diagnosis of dementia

• Information to ensure that people feel well informed about the diagnostic process

• Emotional support

The service also offers access to a range of group activities including:

• A monthly Memory Café that is open to people who are waiting for a diagnosis and to informal carers and family members

• A monthly Coffee and Chat

• Time In Nature: A project that provides an opportunity for people to visit a nature reserve that is managed by Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust

• A Walk in The Park: An opportunity for a relaxed and informal stroll in a group setting with an option for a coffee afterwards

• Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy: A group activity that is designed to support people living with mild to moderate dementia
