In 2024 Age UK reported that 1 in 14 people aged 65+ suffer from frequent loneliness* which impacts negatively on their health, wellbeing and quality of life.

For many older people, Christmas can be the loneliest time of the year. A simple phone call, a cup of tea or a friendly face can make all the difference. 

Choose a gift from our shop and your donation will go to fund services that provide real companionship to lonely people across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland. Every purchase will bring warmth, connection, and a little festive cheer to older people in your local community.

Befriending Phone Call

1 in 30 older people can go for more than a week without speaking to anybody, including friends or family; so a befriending call could be the highlight of a persons day.  To most of us, a telephone call may be viewed as just a chat, but to many lonely people it is much more. To lonely people it is a lifeline.

For many older people, a quiet home can feel very lonely. If they are provided with a radio, they can fill a lonely room with voices, music and memories.
